Update March 2026

State of the City

On 3/4/26 I attended Twinsburg’s State of the City, another chance to hear firsthand about the City's accomplishments and where we’re headed as a community.

Continued progress in economic development, public safety, infrastructure, and community services was on display. The daily work of City of Twinsburg employees really makes a difference for our residents and local businesses

It was also great to spend time talking with local business owners and community leaders before and after the presentation. Those conversations and connections help me be in a better position to serve.

Thanks to everyone who helped organize the event and to those who took the time to attend and stay engaged.

Representative Emilia Sykes Community Conversation:

On February 26th, Congresswoman Emilia Sykes was in Twinsburg for a Community Conversation with her constituents.  I heard firsthand how she puts constituents first, second, and third.  The impact she's making in DC as our representative is much more than the $850,000 in federal funding she secured for our Glen Chamberlin Park.

Fiber Internet

Residents in Tinkers Woods and Heritage Estates have probably noticed utility markers between the sidewalk and their home. These markers are most likely associated with a public utility upgrade. Kinetic is installing fiber for internet.

Twinsburg Police K-9

Congratulations to K-9 Ceasar on his retirement with eight human years (approximately 50 dog years) of service with the Twinsburg Police Department...

Welcome to K-9 Benny

Home Repair Program

Non-emergency home repair programs are for income-qualifying Summit County residents. You may not be eligible for all of the offered programs. Please see the program image and link for details.

Registered Solicitors

As the weather changes it's likely companies will be knocking on doors.

Here's how to find out if they're registered with the city.

Code Enforcement

As the weather gets warmer, the city's building and zoning departments will get busier.  To help ensure a timely response, the best way to report a concern is through this link:

Is the city secretly approving a massive data center?

Setting the Record Straight About Data Centers in Twinsburg

https://together.mytwinsburg.com/ask-twinsburg/news_feed/data-centers

My report to residents related to Data Centers:

As a member of the City Council , I've leaned into the Data Center topic and learned.

Even though "Data Centers are not allowed in Twinsburg," I'm still trying to learn about Data Centers because the issue is bigger than Twinsburg, and no matter where or how they're built, the concern impacts our region.

On February 18th, I attended the Ohio Municipal League's program on Data Centers.  It is also important to report back to the residents because there are concerns in the region. Laurie, Nora, Michael, Chris, Casey, Lawrence, Susan, Richard, Lynn, Jimmy and others who have called or emailed me have heard you.

OML’s presenters were the MONTROSE GROUP, and Amazon.

Things of note from the presentations:

  • Ohio ranks fourth in data centers,  and the market is expected to grow at a 5-year compounded rate of 18.5%

  • Agricultural and Brownfield areas seem to be targets of Data Center growth. This would make Twinsburg a less attractive location for Data Centers

  • There are some tools communities can use to attract data centers, like Community Benefit Agreements  Per the mayor, Twinsburg is not actively attracting or recruiting Data Centers

  • Amazon’s commitment to sustainability and water usage

  • Information about Data Center noise was shared. Amazon highlighted their acoustic management program consisting of 15 acoustic engineers (there are times when Amazon has more delivery trucks in a neighborhood than they have people working on the known sound issues associated with data centers)

  • The OML webinar was a very informative presentation, and I'm probably better for attending.

There are several legislative proposals being considered in the State Senate and State House:

Senator Casey Weinstein introduced or is working with colleagues in Columbus on a number of Data Center related issues.

- Ohio Power Reliability and Fairness Act

- Responsible Water Use in Data Centers Act

- Data Center Grid Cost Responsibility Act

- Data Center Tax Break Bill

-Local Development Protection Act + Home Rule Resolution

Steve Demitrio has a bill related to new data centers that draws a hard line:

  • No taxpayer handouts for corporate data centers

  • No seizing private property for tech giants

  • No paving over prime farmland

  • No dumping massive power costs onto working families

The House Technology and Innovation Committee received sponsor testimony for House Bill 646, a bill that would establish a bipartisan Data Center Study Commission.

I share this information to help close the loop on residents’ concerns.  I don't want to create drama, but I do want to keep residents informed.

Homelessness and Housing Insecurity:

You may have noticed an increase in posts on local community facebook pages relating to housing and how Twinsburg has stepped up.  If you or a group you’re part of has helped someone, I thank you.   In addition to the amazing generosity I've witnessed locally, calling 211 is the first step to accessing resources and services. Calling 211 is an important step as without data, needed resources will not come to Twinsburg. I'm proud to be part of an effort to bridge the resource and geographical gap and make a difference for people.  Because most of the resources are in Akron, we've met with representatives from Summit County Executive's Office and the Continuum of Care for guidance. Remember, 211 is the best connection to resources and the first data point agencies and other funders look to. Stay tuned for more information.

Housing Together Roundtable:

On March 7th, I attended a panel discussion on housing hosted by Congresswoman Emilia Sykes:

Panel Members:

  • Michael Migden, Chief of Staff for the Summit County Fiscal Office,

  • Richard Bancroft. CEO of the Homebuilders Association of Summit and Portage Counties,

  • Jamie McMillen, Vice President of Advocacy for the Akron Cleveland Association of Realtors

  • Cheryl Stephens, CEO of the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation

Discussion topics included property taxes, affordability, supply, workforce, regulation, absentee corporate landlords, zoning, insurance and more.

In addition to engaging with the panel I was able to connect with elected officials from other communities, agency representatives and other stakeholders.

This was a great opportunity to connect with a group poised to tackle the housing crisis.

SNAP Benefits

Significant changes to SNAP benefits, eligibility, requirements and many other federally funded programs have created uncertainty. This uncertainty along with state mandated program management at the county level are contributing phone issues.

Youth Summer Camp

Upcoming Event:

Each year, I organize a picnic-style event for Ward One, inviting representatives from Twinsburg and beyond. This year, the event will be held in August at Morain Park. In the past, the County Prosecutor, Stow Clerk of Courts, and County Councilwoman, along with other elected and appointed officials from Twinsburg, were in attendance. I assemble information, resources, and giveaways to enhance the neighborhood’s connection. I hope you can join me for the 2026 event.
